Samson Chan competed in the 2017 OFSAA Badminton Chamionship May 04-06 in Chatham.
As a grade 11 student, this is Samson's second trip to OFSAA. In 2016, he captured fourth place in A Flight, a performance he exceeded this year when he won the silver medal for his second place finish in the gold medal match against the number 1 ranked junior in Canada, Bryan Yang.
Samson advanced through the draw undefeated. This year more than ever, the draw was heavily loaded with skilled club players and presented challenging matches at a level not typically seen in the past. This is due in part to the Canadian national junior championship being scheduled two weeks later when it normally falls closer to the OFSAA date, thus allowing more of the elite players to join in the 2017 OFSAA championship. Samson will be traveling to Moncton to compete in the Yonex Canadian Junior Championships to be held May 15-20.
Congratulations to Samson on an exceptional performance and on his OFSAA silver medal win. Best wishes at the nationals next week.
